Year-in-review: Top plays of 2019
These are a few of the best we captured in 2019
2019 was a great year for local sports. It was hard to narrow down the top plays we captured on camera this season. Of course, there are some (that one-handed Zach Westmoreland catch you’re thinking of) that we didn’t get on camera.
If there’s a play that we missed and you think should make the list, shoot me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and I’ll see if we have the video!
With that, here are some of the best plays we captured in 2019.
Patrick Carlton overtime touchdown in state championship
December: Carthage QB Patrick Carlton punches in a 2-yard touchdown in overtime to give the Tigers a win over Jackson and their first state state championship in program history.

Nick Sarwinski one-handed catch
September: Galena’s Nick Sarwinski makes a sweet one-handed grab against Riverton.
Zach Westmoreland in state championship
November: Zach Westmoreland has a TON of great plays from this season. However, these two touchdowns in the state championship game against DeSmet stuck out to me. These are some of the best players in the state, and Westmoreland still found a way to make them look silly. Westmoreland finished the game with 12 catches for 194 yards and these two touchdowns.

September: Pitt State’s Adam Smith blocks a punt, and Morgan Selemaea returns it for a touchdown against Northeastern State.
Cam Martin off the glass
November: Missouri Southern’s Cam Martin goes off the glass to himself for the dunk.
Isaiah Davis in 2019
August-November: I can’t narrow down the season Isaiah Davis had to just a play or two. The Joplin running back was incredible all season long. He rushed for 2,283 yards and 45 touchdowns this season. He had 220 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns in the air. He was 1st team All-State. He was the Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year. He was the MaxPreps Offensive Player of the Year. I’m sure I’m missing more awards, but you get the point.
Cam Martin sets MSSU record
March: Cam Martin again. I had so much fun getting to see this one in person. Martin hit a Missouri Southern record nine 3’s against Washburn in the NCAA Division II National Tournament, AND HE’S THEIR CENTER. Martin was 9-10 from three, finishing with 46 points and 11 rebounds.
Bedore game-winning three
January: Bre Bedore (Parsons) hits a game winner against St. Paul in the semifinals of the Southeast Lancer Classic. The shot gave the Vikings a 36-33 win and put them in the championship game of the tournament, which they would win to claim their first Lancer Classic championship.
Noah Southern touchdown vs. Ozark
September: This was a great play from Carl Junction’s Noah Southern. First, he made a one-handed grab. Then, somehow, managed to break out of the pile and get in the end zone.
Zach Parish sets record
May: Missouri Southern pitcher Zach Parish sets a new school record with 126 strikeouts on the year. Parish was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Year, leading the league in wins (8) and strikeouts.

February: Seneca’s Isaiah Grotjohn hits a game-winner with .6 left on the clock to lift the Indians over Mt. Vernon 51-49 in the semifinals of the district tournament.
