Wrong-way collision on I-44 leaves three dead

Vehicle collided head-on Sunday night

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Mo. – A wrong-way driver in I-44 crashes head-on into a oncoming car Sunday night, killing three people.

Missouri Highway Patrol says it happened at 9:05  p.m. about five miles east of Mount Vernon, Missouri. 85-year-old Evert Hair of Billings, Missouri was driving east in the westbound lane when hit a car heading west. The occupants of the car included the driver, 17-year-old Izik Fudge of Mount Vernon, and a passenger, 17-year-old Navaeh Aust of Mount Vernon.

A Lawrence County coroner pronounced all three dead at 9:13 p.m. This was Troop D’s 10th, 11th and 12th fatalities of 2021.
