Woman dies after crash involving 4 vehicles in Crawford County
Authorities say a Fort Scott woman was killed after a four-vehicle crash on U.S. Hwy 69. It happened on April 26th, 2019, around 9:30 pm less than a mile north of K-47 (mile marker 44.8).
Irma Hughes, 83, was killed when her pickup was hit from behind. She was pushed into the opposite lane, hit by an oncoming car, then into a ditch where she was hit by a fourth vehicle.
The fourth vehicle then hit a tree.
Alex Szweedo, 30, a passenger in the car that rear-ended Hughes was taken to Via Christi Hospital with ‘suspected serious injuries’, according to the Kansas State Highway Patrol crash report.
Two other people involved in the crash received minor injuries.
Six others involved were not injured.
