Willie Freeman Merritt, age 77, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at the Lawrence County Manor, in Mt. Vernon. He was born March 2, 1942, in Clever, Missouri, the son of Freddie and Opal (Short) Merritt.

Freeman was a 1960 graduate of Clever High School and was a retired carpenter for Artisan Construction Services in Springfield, Missouri. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union and enjoyed watching Nascar. He was member of the First Baptist Church in Clever and the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.

On June 25, 1965, he married Patricia Neill, in Springfield, Missouri.

Freeman is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pat; one son, Freddie Merritt and his wife, Sherilyn, of Mt. Vernon; one daughter, Tammy Allhands of Nixa, Missouri; two sisters, Phyllis Branson of Springfield, Missouri and Yvonne Swadley of Ozark, Missouri.

Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie and Opal, son, Steve Allhands and two sisters, Ruth Ann Davis and Margaret Merritt.

A visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2020, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Delaware Cemetery at Nixa, Missouri.

Memorial donations may be made payable to the Lawrence County Manor, in care of the funeral home.
