Maya Williams scored a team-high 20 points as the Pittsburg State University women’s basketball team pulled away for a 69-59 win over the University of Nebraska-Kearney Thursday (Feb. 28) at Health & Sport Center.
The Gorillas (21-6, 13-5 MIAA) shot 41 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes of play, making 10 of 24 shots. Pitt State led 36-21 at halftime against the Lopers (15-11, 8-10 MIAA).
Maya Williams finished with 20 points and a team-leading nine rebounds, while Tristan Gegg chipped in with 15 points. Meghan Maher added 12 points while, Sydnee Crain came off the bench to contribute 10 points.
UNK got a combined 41 points from Shiloh McCook and Maegan Holt, with McCool finishing with a game-high 24.
The Gorillas will return to action Saturday (Mar. 2) when they travel to Hays, Kan., to face MIAA rival Fort Hays State University at 2 p.m. (CST) at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
