Pittsburg High School senior Brett Wiemers signed his letter of intent on Monday to continue his baseball career at the college level.

Wiemers signed Monday afternoon to join Steve Murry and the Neosho County Panthers in Chanute, Kansas.

“It’s kind of just a feeling of relief, really,” Wiemers says, “It’s kind of getting late in the year, so it’s nice to know what I’m doing, where I’m going to go and to just have a plan moving forward.”

Wiemers is a three-sport athlete at Pittsburg High, also playing football and basketball. He has been recruited to play in the infield at Neosho CC, but feels comfortable playing wherever he is asked to.

“Having the opportunity to play college baseball is honestly really humbling. I’m honored to do it,” Wiemers adds, “Not everyone gets this opportunity, so…why not go make the best of it?”

He’ll get to see a familiar face when he makes it to Chanute. Former Pittsburg High School teammate Chase Curtis is currently on the roster at Neosho CC.

“I mean i tried not to let it factor into my decision, But it did,” Wiemers says, “Having Chase is going to be awesome. We grew up together. So having him to kind of show me the ropes, with the baseball side of things and school side of things is going to make everything really easy and a lot more enjoyable.”
