Who lives in Missouri’s caves?

There are many creatures in the thousands of caves in Missouri. So who are they?

The Cave State is home to 6.1 million human beings.

Yet, it’s those without opposable thumbs (and other primates) who call the more than 7,500 known caves in Missouri home.

Jessie Ballard, a naturalist with the Missouri Department of Conservation, is teaching a virtual program this Tuesday called Cave Critters, which dives into the unique ecosystem of caves and the various adaptations each organism takes on to help it survive.
