Webb City Fire Dept investigate house fire, Missouri State Fire Marshal assists

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Just after 2:30 a.m. Webb City 911 were alerted to reports of a structure fire. Reported flames and smoke from a residence at 323 S Webb.

Webb City Police, Webb City Fire and METS ambulance responded. Automatic mutual aid came from Joplin and Oronogo Fire.

Neighbors tell us Webb City Fire knocked down the active flames quickly as other units arrived.

Smoke continued coming from the structure as the active fire was out. So crews started extensive overhaul on the south side exposing the wall studs from the exterior.

Overhaul is the practice of searching a fire scene to detect hidden fires or smoldering areas that may rekindle, mostly in walls and ceilings.

Webb City Battalion Chief Jackie Clark tells us no one was located in or around the residence. And there were no active utilities. They summoned the Missouri State Fire Marshal to assist with investigation.

Joplin and Oronogo crews were dismissed at 3:45 a.m. and other crews remained on scene.
