Webb City Police Department is warning businesses about a scam hitting the area.

The suspect states he is a girl’s softball coach. He lost his sponsor and he is just needing to get $80 to pay for some t-shirts. He is getting the t-shirts from a specific sport shop & screen printing business. In some cases, if the business gives the suspect money to help pay for the t-shirts, then he comes back later asking for additional funds to pay for umpire fees or other expenses pertaining to the softball team.

Detective Meyer has identified a suspect. At this time it has been confirmed that the suspect has successfully defrauded six different businesses in Webb City, Jasper County, and Newton County. If anyone has donated money and they believe that they may have been a victim of this type of scam, please contact the appropriate law enforcement agency that would be responsible for their business or organization.
