Webb City Police pursuit ends in Joplin, man in custody

Webb City Police Chief Don Melton tells us they located a reported stolen red Kia Soul in the 1800 bl S Oronogo. That is where the pursuit began.

JOPLIN, Mo. — Friday shortly after 2:30 p.m. Webb City Police initiated a pursuit inside Webb City of a vehicle reported stolen out of Joplin. 

Webb City Police Chief Don Melton tells us they located a red Kia Soul in the 1800 block of S Oronogo.  Officers attempted to make contact with the person(s) inside and they fled.

Tipsters told us the red vehicle was seen traveling south on Madison and then West onto Zora being pursued by numerous officers.

The pursuit traveled outside of Webb City, into Jasper County and then into the Joplin city limits traveling south on Schifferdecker.

Along the way the vehicle struck an uninvolved motorist. The Missouri State Highway Patrol are investigating that crash near the Turkey Creek bridge in the N Schifferdecker area. 

On the west alley of 2nd and Oak, near Schifferdecker Park, person(s) exited the badly damaged car, fled into foot.

A foot pursuit traveled a short distance in a creek bed as one suspect was taken into custody.

It is unconfirmed but a second subject could have also been in the Kia. A second person was detained a short distance away.

One male is being transported for medical treatment of unknown injuries.

He will face Webb City and Joplin charges regarding the pursuit and other outstanding warrants.
