WBB: Gorillas 2018-19 Schedule Released
RELEASE FROM PITTSBURG STATE ATHLETICS:
PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University women’s basketball schedule will feature 14 home games during the 2018-19 season.
The 2018-19 season will get underway with the Gorillas facing a pair of NCAA Division I opponents – Drake University and Kansas State University – in exhibition games. Pitt State will face the Bulldogs on Nov. 3 at Des Moines, Iowa, and then meet the Wildcats at Manhattan, Kan., on Nov. 5.
The Gorillas open regular season play Nov. 9-10 at historic Municipal Auditorium at Kansas City, Mo., in the MIAA/GAC/NSIC Challenge. The Gorillas will face Northern State University at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, and Minnesota State University-Moorhead at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10.
The Gorillas will make their home debut at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court Nov. 16-17 when they host the Pitt State Classic. The Gorillas will take on Southeastern Oklahoma State University at 11 a.m. Friday and the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith at 1 p.m. Saturday.
On Friday, Nov. 23, the Gorillas will host Bethany College in a non-conference game at 1:30 p.m. Pitt State also will host non-conference match-ups against Tabor College on Dec. 28 and Bethel College on Dec. 31.
The Gorillas will face a pair of NCAA Division II opponents Dec. 17-18 when Pitt State meets Embry-Riddle University and St. Edward’s University in the Las Vegas Hoopla at Las Vegas, Nev.
MIAA play begins Wednesday, Dec. 5, when Pitt State plays host to Northeastern State University. The Gorillas MIAA home action includes battles with the University of Central Oklahoma (Dec. 8), Southwest Baptist University (Jan. 9), the University of Central Missouri (Jan. 12), Emporia State University (Jan. 23), Washburn University (Jan. 26), Fort Hays State University (Feb. 7), the University of Nebraska-Kearney (Feb. 9) and Missouri Southern State University (Feb. 16).
The Gorillas will take to the road in MIAA play against Lincoln University (Jan. 3), Lindenwood University (Jan. 5), Central Oklahoma (Jan. 17), Northeastern State (Jan. 19), Northwest Missouri State University (Jan. 31), Missouri Western State University (Feb. 2), Missouri Southern (Feb. 19), Emporia State (Feb. 21), Nebraska-Kearney (Feb. 28) and Fort Hays State (Mar. 2).
The MIAA Tournament is scheduled for Mar. 7-10 at Kansas City.
Head coach Amanda Davied makes her debut as the Gorillas’ mentor in 2018-19 after serving as the assistant coach at her alma mater the past 14 seasons. During her tenure on the Pitt State staff (2004-18), the Gorillas have compiled a 283-160 overall record (.639), capturing an MIAA regular season title in 2017 and making five trips to the NCAA Division II National Tournament (2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) including a pair of Elite Eight appearances (2012, 2016). Pitt State posted a 23-7 record in 2017-18.
