Watching rain chances later this week
Thanks to a stronger system that'll work in
JOPLIN, Mo. — Thanks to another upper-level wave quickly working through the area, we have the cloud cover back in the picture for today. Fortunately for those that don’t want rain chances today, there isn’t enough moisture to produce any meaningful rain chances across the area. You could argue that a stray shower or two could try to pop up before the day is done, but the vast majority of the area should stay dry today.
Once we get a chance to enjoy a nice and mild Tuesday, we’ll have a stronger storm system ready to work in from the west for the middle of the week and to start the upcoming weekend out. The system will start with rain and t-storm chances for Wednesday and Thursday morning. Before the system exits, some snow could try to mix in as temperatures turn much colder by Friday morning. As far as potential rain amounts, early projections suggest the area could see a range between half an inch to an inch and a half. On top of a possible quick rain/snow mix for early Friday morning, we’ll keep an eye on the rainfall potential over the next several days.
