Washburn takes series from Lions; Beck shines in second start for MSSU

Chayton Beck goes 3-4 with 2 RBI in his second start at catcher.

JOPLIN, Mo. – Washburn baseball topped Missouri Southern 8-4 on Monday in the series finale. With the win, the Ichabods take two out of three from the Lions in the weekend series.

“We had our chances to score. We had bases loaded in the 7th and nobody out, and we weren’t able to do that,” says MSSU head coach Bryce Darnell, “Credit to Washburn for hanging in there. I thought our starter did a really good job. Washburn is a really good offensive team and he was able to hold them down. We just have to capitalize because teams like Washburn keep coming. When we get chances to score, we need to do it.”

Redshirt freshman Chayton Beck came up big for Missouri Southern in just his second start at catcher.

Beck was 3-4 with 2 RBI Monday afternoon.

“He did great. He works hard. He’s a team guy, and he was ready to play when his name was called,” Darnell says of Beck, “That’s what we ask these guys to do. We’re really happy for Chayton, he did a really good job this weekend.”

The Lions will be back on the field on Friday, on the road against Emporia State.
