Walk with a doc in Joplin
JOPLIN, Mo. — No appointment was needed for this doctor visit at Joplin’s Mercy Hospital! Doctors met with people to discuss health topics during their Walk with a Doc event on Saturday.
The event is intended to encourage exercise and spread awareness on a variety of health topics, ranging from heart disease to Parkinson’s. Experts say walking thirty minutes twice a week is great for your health, and decreases your chances for heart disease and high blood pressure.
“Doing that can help to prevent cardiac disease. It basically helps with blood pressure, cholesterol, as well as keeping the brain active and healthy,” said neurologist Dr. Laxmi Kokatnur.
The walks are thirty to forty minutes long, but everyone is encouraged to go at their own pace. If you’d like to check one out, they’re held the first Saturday of every month at Mercy Joplin.
