Volunteers prep for Medicaid expansion petition
JOPLIN, Mo. — Volunteers assembled at Joplin Public Library for petition-training 101, hoping to land Medicaid expansion on the 2020 ballot.
The ballot initiative gives voters the chance to expand Missouri Medicaid eligibility to people making under $18,000 a year, or $30,000 a year for a family of three.
Volunteers learned do’s and don’ts of how to petitionm, with a goal of landing a total of 172,000 signatures.
“Income eligibility limit is 22% of the federal poverty level, which for a family of 3, looks like about $370 a month that they cannot be making more than,” explained KJ McDonald with Missouri Health Care for All.
“I’m excited to be able to be involved in my community and champion a cause that I’m involved in,” said Stella Ndauwa, a volunteer.
