Volunteer tax assistance available at Missouri Southern
Individuals or families needing help with their taxes can receive it through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance team at Missouri Southern State University.
Appointments will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Saturday, from Feb. 13 through April 16 in Room 303 of Plaster Hall. It will be closed March 19 during Spring Break.
The free service is offered for individuals or families who make less than $53,000 per year. Students will be on hand to help prepare and file federal 1040 or 1040-A returns as well as state returns. All volunteers are junior and senior accounting majors and have passed the required Internal Revenue Service tests.
Those needing assistance will need to bring their tax paperwork, driver’s license, a canceled check or routing number, Social Security cards for everyone in the family, and forms 1095-A, B or C (Affordable Health Care statements).
In 2015, more than 250 tax returns were filed through the VITA program at Missouri Southern, generating a total of $275,000 in refunds.
