Volleyball Loses to Missouri Southern, 3-1


The Pitt State Volleyball team lost a 3-1 match to rival Missouri Southern in Young Gymnasium on Tuesday (Nov. 11) evening.

Madi Mosier led Pitt State with 11 kids. Paula Okrutna added eight kills while Ashley Bell and Haylee Gregory each had seven. Ashlen Schwartz led teh team with 16 digs.

Pitt State had only two team blocks on the night, while Missouri Southern recorded six. The Gorillas were also hampered by eight Lion service aces.

The Gorillas lost the first set 25-16 after recorded only eight kills and eight eight attack errors. The team improved in the second set, putting down 12 kills, including five by Mosier and four by Okrutna.

A different team took the court in set three. Pitt State put down 13 kills with only three errors for a .500 attack percentage, while holding Missouri Southern to just nine kills. Ashley Bell and Hayley Hansford each put down three kills for the team. The Gorillas were also helped by two service aces.

The fourth set was tight the whole way with Missouri Southern taking several four-point leads, but the Gorillas fighting back to tie as late as 23-23 before eventually falling 25-23.

Pitt State will play its final match of the season on Saturday (Nov. 15) at 7 p.m. at Central Oklahoma.
