Virginia Lee (Zane) Fanning of Republic, MO passed from this life Monday, May 23, 2022 at Mount Vernon Place Care Center in Mt. Vernon, MO. She was 85.

Virginia was born June 30, 1936 in Quapaw, OK to James Bridger and Beulah Isabelle (Robbins) Zane. She had lived in the Republic, MO area for the past 50 years and grew up in the Oklahoma and Kansas area and had lived in Wyandotte, OK before returning to Republic, MO. . She is a member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe.

Virginia was a Licensed Practical Nurse and had worked at Cox Medical Center in Springfield, MO. She was Election Board Secretary for Eastern Shawnee Tribe and a Community Health Representative for Miami Tribe. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 370 of Republic, MO and was a past Worthy Matron and was a Grand Representative to Tennessee.

Virginia was preceded in death by 2 sons, James Riley Fanning and Michael Lee Fanning, her parents, 3 brothers, James Zane, Harold Dean Zane and Thomas Milton Zane and 2 sisters, Betty Ellen Zane and Glady Marie (Zane) McHatton.

Survivors include 1 daughter Cindy Shipley of Republic, MO, 3 grandchildren, Evan Shipley, Dakota Edwards – Fanning and Mariah Fanning, 2 great grandchildren, Andrew Cox and Lanae Cox and 6 nieces and 1 nephew.

Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the Sandy Captain Building in Seneca, MO. Native American Rites will be conducted by Shawn King. Interment will be Baxter Springs Cemetery in Baxter Springs, KS. Jacob Seeglitz, Dakota Edwards-Fanning, Steven Freeman, David Cox, Stacy Mahurin and Shawn Lewis will serve as pallbearers. Virginia will lie in state at the Sandy Captain Building, Seneca, MO. Services have been placed in the care of Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, OK.
