Virginia Lee Simpson 95, of Columbus, KS died 6:10pm Thursday June 10, 2021 at the Autumn Place in Columbus, KS following an illness.

Virginia was born September 10, 1925 in Columbus, KS the daughter of LeRoy and Gladys (Miller) Eaton. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Columbus High School. Virginia married Orville Potter in 1944; they later divorced. She later married Raymond F. Simpson in Fayetteville, AR in 1948; he preceded her in death in 2010.
Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church in Columbus, KS; was known as a painter, quilter, crafter, gardener, a wonderful cook including her home made noodles, lumpy mash potatoes and “granny corn”.

Survivors include her children Robert Potter and wife Kathy of Kansas City, MO, William Potter and wife Debbie of Pittsburg, KS and Derris Simpson and wife Cheryl of Weir, KS; grandchildren Richard Potter, Michael Potter, Alicia Burk, Matt Simpson and Darreld Ray Simpson; in addition 12 great-grandchildren.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings Dorothy Roth and LeRoy Eaton Jr.

Graveside Services will be 10:00am Monday June 14, 2021 at the Lone Elm Cemetery in Rural Cherokee County, KS with Pastor Tom Goettel officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow the graveside service at First Baptist Church in Columbus, KS. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the First Baptist Church Columbus, KS.
