Victim identified in Noel murder case, suspect charged

NOEL, Mo. – Authorities identify the victim in a fatal weekend shooting as Jonathan Arellanos, 23, of Noel, Missouri.

Today, the McDonald County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against the suspect, Shun’tavion L. Thomas, 23, of Noel. Charges include Class A Felony Murder in the 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action.

Thomas is in custody with no bond awaiting extradition back to McDonald County from Benton County, Arkansas.

On Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, around 10:05 a.m., authorities with the Noel Marshall’s Office and McDonald County Sheriff’s Office went to the Noel Heights Apartments (26 Redwood Ln) after a call of a disturbance and possible shots fired.

When they got there, deputies checked the area and were directed to an apartment on the second floor. After checking, authorities say they found a deceased man in the apartment with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Both the Noel Marshal’s Office and McDonald County Sheriff’s Office started investigating.

After some brief interviews, they found that the suspect had left the apartment complex. They identified him as Shun’tavion L. Thomas and put out a bolo for him and the vehicle he was driving.

Authorities in Benton County, Arkansas found and arrested him several hours later.
