Via Christi Hospital Mourns Passing of Riaz Baqir, MD

News release issued by Via Christi Hospital:

PITTSBURG, Kan. (Monday, May 13, 2013) – Via Christi Hospital suffered a tragic loss this afternoon with the death of Riaz Baqir, MD, who was fatally injured in a car crash this morning near Pleasanton, Kansas. Dr. Baqir was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital and died from his injuries this afternoon.

Dr. Baqir joined the Via Christi Heart & Vascular Center in 2009, and helped save lives in our community through the excellent care he provided. He was Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was a Fellow of the American Board of Cardiology and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

“More importantly than his clinical expertise, Dr. Baqir is remembered for his kindness and the way he treated people,” Via Christi Hospital Senior Administrator Randy Cason said. “He always made you smile whenever, and wherever you saw him.”

“He was a good friend,” Via Christi Hospital Heart & Vascular Center Director Wes McDaniel said. “A good friend, a good teacher, and a good mentor.”

A memorial service will be held for Dr. Baqir in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Chapel in the near future. Riaz Baqir, MD, was 66 years old (November 1, 1946 – May 13, 2013)
