VERNON COUNTY, Mo. – Senior citizens in Vernon County no longer need to worry about leaving their homes to get their groceries, as the Sheriff’s Office will now deliver them straight to your door.

They are partnering with Woods Supermarket in Nevada to do offer the Senior Express Delivery.

“We’re trying to help as many people in the community as we can and one of those areas is helping the senior citizens, because they’re at elevated risk of contracting the virus” said Vernon County Sheriff, Jason Mosher.

A call center will be open from 6:30 A.M to 3:30 P.M Monday through Friday, taking delivery orders of 30 items or less.

“We can bring the food to them and they don’t have to expose themselves so I think it’s a good thing for everybody” said Patrol Lieutenant, Travis Cole.

The service is for ages 60 and over.

“It gives us a chance to be part of helping somebody and letting them know we’re here and not just in bad situations, but we’re here all the time and here to help anyway we can” added Sheriff Mosher.

Once orders are placed, officers will pick up the order curbside at Woods, and will drive to your home and drop it off.

They can leave the items outside your home or bring them inside for you.

“The normal times that woods has put out for delivery is 12 to 4pm. Some of those orders in the evenings may be pushed to the next morning, however, if there’s a lot of orders coming in we want people to get their food so we may have our second shift staff continue delivering throughout the evening” said Sheriff Mosher.

The first day of this initiative had officers doing more than 10 home deliveries and Sheriff Mosher says there is no end date in place.

“Until we feel like through state officials and federal officials tell us that that threat is no longer there for senior citizens, until it’s safe for them to go back to their normal routines we’re going to continue this process for as long as we need to.”

The Woods Supermarket is doing free deliveries themselves within 5 miles of their location for the senior express delivery. The Sheriff’s office will deliver to anywhere in the county.

The number to call for the Senior Express Delivery is 417-204-4790.
