Vehicle in Joplin police chase linked to suspect in Pittsburg officer involved shooting
JOPLIN, Mo. – Police search for a suspect after a pursuit in Joplin. The suspect vehicle, according to police, matched one involved in a felony assault on a law enforcement officer in Pittsburg.
On Sunday, Jan. 19, Pittsburg police officers responded to the area of 8th and Locust, where William Patton and Kaitlyn McMurry were allegedly seen.
Patton, 28, of Pittsburg, and McMurry, 21, of Girard, are wanted for crimes in Allen and Woodson Counties. Warrant charges now include aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal possession of a firearm and more.
Pittsburg police say a maroon Chevy Silverado pickup fled the scene once officers tried to contact the driver, and almost hit one of the officers. Another officer shot at the driver but it’s not known if the driver was hit. McMurry was not found at the scene, but Patton is believed to be the driver of the Silverado.
Police say Patton is considered armed and dangerous.
In Joplin, around 12:17 a.m. on Jan. 22, police began pursuing a vehicle matching the description of the Pittsburg incident. The chase ended about eight minutes later after authorities deployed stop sticks. The suspect ran into a wooded area. No arrests have been made.
