Vehicle crashes into building after fleeing from police in Carthage

A man loses control and crashes into a building in Carthage after fleeing from authorities, according to the Carthage Police Department.

On November 14th, 2019, around 10:44 p.m., an officer tried to stop a vehicle at 11th and Main Street for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Police say the vehicle fled north through a residential area, then turned west onto Central Avenue.

That’s where it lost control, overturned, and crashed into Boomer BBQ at 1123 W. Central. The crash caused substantial damage to the building.

Carthage Police arrested the 20-year-old driver for Resisting by Fleeing, DWI, C&I Driving, MIP, 2nd Degree Assault and 1st Degree Property Damage.

EMS took a passenger to a Joplin hospital with severe injuries.

Police plan to submit charges to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office.
