Update: Name released in Pittsburg fatal crash
PITTSBURG, Kan. — The Pittsburg Police Department says the victim of Wednesday’s fatal crash was Tonya Delmont of Pittsburg.
Authorities responded to the scene of a two-vehicle accident around 4:25 p.m. on January 2nd, 2019. The crash happened near the intersection of Park and Elm Streets in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Police say a 1998 GMC SUV driving south on Elm Street was slowing to make a right turn onto Ramsey Street when the crash happened. Authorities say a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, also driving south on Elm Street, failed to notice the SUV was turning and tried to pass the SUV on the right side of the roadway.
After the vehicles collided, the pickup truck hit a tree on the passenger side of the truck before spinning back out onto Elm Street.
A passenger in the pickup was injured and taken to Via Christi Hospital and later flown to KU Medical Center in Kansas City. The passenger later died as a result of the injuries.
The drivers of the truck and SUV were uninjured.
Pittsburg Police say they are still investigating the crash. The names of those involved are being withheld pending notifications of family.
The Pittsburg Police Department, Pittsburg Fire Department and the Crawford County EMS all responded.
