Two upsets highlight Saturday in MIAA basketball

Two top 25 teams fell in Warrensburg as a wild day comes to a close in MIAA basketball.
Northeastern State at Missouri Southern
WBB: MSSU 50, NSU 34
Missouri Southern held Northeastern State to just nine first half points as they earned a win at home. MSSU held NSU .217 from the field as they moved to 3-3 in the league this season.
For the Lions Sharese Jones led the way with a double-double scoring 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Alexis Fitzpatrick added nine points and four steals and Camila Lacerda had five assists. The RiverHawks were led by Alexia Hill who had seven points and Kate Bellamy who had a team high five rebounds.
MBB: MSSU 90, NSU 54
Missouri Southern scored 52 second half points to picked up a victory over Northeastern State at home. MSSU held NSU to 18 first half point and shot .500 from the three-point line to move to 3-2 in league play.
The Lions were led by Austin Wright who scored 28 points and Charlie Brown with 17 points. Taevaunn Prince had 11 points and Blaine Miller finished with a team best nine rebounds. For the RiverHawks Landon DeMasters led the way with 13 points on the afternoon. Dakota Caudill had 10 points and a team best eight rebounds and Demone Harrison also added 10 points.
Washburn at Northwest Missouri
WBB: #13 WU 77, NWMSU 65
#13 Washburn was able to erase a six-point deficit as the earned a victory on the road at Northwest Missouri. WU got 49 second half point as they move to 4-3 in the MIAA this season.
The Ichabods were led by Casyn Buchman who scored 24 points and dished out five assists. Honor Duvall had 12 points and six rebounds and Taylor Ignoto had 10 points on the afternoon. The Bearcats were led by Tember Schechinger who scored 20 points. Ariel Easton had 17 points and led the way with six rebounds and Morgan Walker had three assists.
MBB: WU 70, NWMSU 64
Washburn shot .512 from the field as they picked up a victory on the road at Northwest Missouri. WU outrebounded NWMSU 37-22 as they moved to 4-3 in the MIAA this season.
The Ichabods were led the Kyle Wiggins who had 23 points and Algie Key with 18 points. Alex North had a double-double as he scored 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. The Bearcats were led by Justin Pitts, Conner Crooker and Matt Wallace as they each scored 15 points. Zach Schneider had 10 points while Pitts had four assists and Crooker added five rebounds.
Fort Hays State at Lincoln
WBB: FHSU 61, LU 53
Fort Hays State scored 23 points off of turnovers as they earned a win on the road at Lincoln. FHSU overcame cold shooting as they moved to 7-0 in the league this season.
For the Tigers Keriann Shaw led the way with a double-double as she scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Kate Lehman also had a double-double scoring 11 points and pulling down 13 boards. For the Blue Tigers Hunter Yoakum had a game high 21 points and Jasmine Guthrie pulled down a team best nine rebounds. Kayton Cole had 15 points and added a team high four assists.
MBB: FHSU 62, LU 45
Fort Hays State grabbed 19 points off of turnovers as earned a victory over Lincoln on the road. FHSU shot .414 from the field and .409 from the three-point line as they moved to 3-4 in the league.
For the Tigers Achoki Moikobu had 15 points and Craig Nicholson had a team best five assists. Dom Samac had 12 points and joined Royce Williams with seven rebounds. For the Blue Tigers Malcolm McDonald led all scorers in the game with 21 points. Joshua Buie had 13 points and added five assists on the afternoon.
Pittsburg State at Missouri Western
WBB: #5 PSU 81, MWSU 71
#5 Pittsburg State held Missouri Western to just 29 first half point to earn a victory on the road. PSU got 18 points off of turnovers and added 13 second chance point to move to 5-0 in league play.
The Gorillas were led by Lizzy Jeronimus who scored 27 points and dished out four assists. Kyle Gafford added 14 points and Morgan Westoff finished with 11 points on the afternoon. For the Griffons LaQuinta Jefferson scored a game high 29 points. Miliakere Koyamainavure added 10 points and Tiara Hall, Mhykean Baez and Mariah Jordan each had five rebounds.
MBB: PSU 63, MWSU 61
Pittsburg State held off a second half comeback by Missouri Western as they earned the victory on the road. PSU shot .558 for the game as they move to 4-2 in the league this season.
The Gorillas were led by Josiah Gustafson who had 16 points and Connor Kjer with six rebounds. Javis Flynn had 11 points and a game best five steals while Lamine Dieng had 10 points. For the Griffons it was Cortrez Colbert and Cole Clearman leading the way with 18 points each. Clearman had a game high four assists and Aaron Emmanuel and Hans Thun led the team with four rebounds each.
Central Oklahoma at Southwest Baptist
WBB: UCO 72, SBU 65
Central Oklahoma held Southwest Baptist to 24 first half points as they picked up a win in Bolivar. UCO held SBU to just .370 percent shooting in the first half as they moved to 6-1 in the league.
The Bronchos were led on the day by Olivia Mason who scored 22 points and Marley Anderson dished out four assists. Chelsea Robinson had 19 points and McKenzie Solberg led the way with seven rebounds. The Bearcats were led by Alex Botkin who had 11 points and Lucy Morgan with 10 points. On the glass Alexis Edwards had seven rebounds to lead the way.
MBB: UCO 73, SBU 61
Central Oklahoma came back from four points down at the half as they earned a victory at Southwest Baptist. UCO racked up 47 second half point as they moved to 5-2 in the MIAA this season.
The Bronchos were led by Seth Heckert who scored a game high 23 points on the afternoon. Mahlon Jones had 10 points and dished out three assists while Phillip Brown added nine rebounds. For the Bearcats Menas Stephens had a double-double scoring 15 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Derrick Stewart also had 12 points and Finn Delany added seven boards.
Emporia State at Central Missouri
WBB: UCM 62, #1 ESU 61
Central Missouri got a free throw with five seconds to play as they upset #1 Emporia State at home. UCM erased a six-point deficit at the half as they moved to 5-2 in the league this season.
For the Jennies Revonnia Howard led the way scoring 20 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Justina Prairie Chief had 14 points and nine boards and Shelby Winkelmann had 10 points. The Lady Hornets were led by Krystie Miller and Merissa Quick with 11 points each. Kelly Moten finished with a team high nine rebounds and added four assists.
MBB: ESU 84, #17 UCM 78 OT
Emporia State came back from 12 points down at halftime as they upset #17 Central Missouri on the road in overtime. ESU shot .583 in the game as they moved to 2-5 in the league this season.
The Hornets were led by Terrence Moore who had a game high 38 points and dished out three assists. Jevon Taylor added 20 points as Micah Swank and Tyler Jordan each added three assists as well. For the Mules Rakeem Dickerson led the way with 22 points and five assists while TJ White had 10 rebounds. Dillon Deck had 14 points, Brennen Hughes added 12 points and Preston Brunz had 10 points and two steals.
