Two dogs rescued in house fire near Joplin High School

2626 S Iowa suffered extensive damage. Red Cross was requested to assist occupants.

JOPLIN, Mo. — About 4:15 p.m. Thursday Joplin Dispatch was alerted to a structure fire south of the Joplin High School in the 2600 block of S Iowa.

Joplin Fire arrival to a one-story wood framed structure stated smoke and flames from the roofline and they were out for attack.

Flames were under control quickly but the fire had spread into the eaves and into the roof and attic space.

Deputy Chief Andy Nimmo tells us they rescued two dogs.

We are awaiting more details from the fire dept. They are still on the scene. Avoid the area if possible.

They have requested assistance from the Red Cross for two dogs and two adults who are now displaced.
