Tropical Update – October 16, 2020
Watching a few areas in the Atlantic Basin
Our look at the Tropics on this October 16th shows a relatively calm setup as the weekend gets underway. While there are no active systems and nothing in the Eastern Pacific brewing over the next 5 days, there are a few areas in the Atlantic Basin we’re watching. In the southwestern Caribbean Sea, we’re watching for a broad area of low pressure to develop early next week. With some gradual development possible through the middle of next week as it remains stationary, this future low will have a 30% chance of turning into a tropical depression within the next 5 days. To the east of Bermuda, we have shower activity associated with a broad non-tropical low pressure system. After seeing this system become better organized this morning, additional gradual tropical or subtropical development will be possible as this system wanders over the central Atlantic into next week. We have any tropical/subtropical depression chances sitting at 40% over the next 5 days.
