Tropical Update – November 1, 2020

Watching a few systems in each basin

Our latest look at the Tropics shows a tropical storm in the Caribbean and a low in the Eastern Pacific to keep an eye on as a new month and a new week begins. In the Atlantic Basin, we have Tropical Storm Eta with sustained wind speeds of 70 mph in the Caribbean Sea 210 miles to the east of Nicaragua. With the expectation of this strengthening into a hurricane and potentially a brief major hurricane over the next few days, tropical storm and hurricane warnings cover the coasts of Nicaragua and Honduras. Once Eta works into Central America, it will weaken into a depression by the end of the week. In the Eastern Pacific, we have a new low that formed several hundred miles to the south of the Baja Peninsula and is producing disorganized rain and t-storms. With the low in a favorable environment for additional development while it moves to the west-northwest, we have the odds of this wave becoming a depression at 80% over the next 5 days.
