Toybox keeps spirit of Christmas alive in Moran, Kansas
MORAN, Kan. — Christmas comes early for the Yocham’s, tearing into one of their favorite holidays.
“Santa is very alive in our household,” explained Ashley Yocham, a mother in Moran, Kansas.
“We put cookies out for Santa. We don’t usually do that, but we did that last year,” said 8-year-old Bryson Yocham, Ashley’s son.
This season is a time of joy and giving, but it’s not always easy to put gifts under the tree, especially in years past when ashley Yocham’s son was in the hospital.
“He was born in October, and he was born with a couple medical problems…and we were in Children’s Mercy in Kansas City, so that kinda helped us out that year with giving the kids presents.”
With a tight budget and a long wish list from her children, she turned to her community’s Adopt-A-Child program, a partner of Toybox. Thanks to the generosity of others, Yocham’s children continue to feel the magic of Santa Claus.
“It is very important to me and my family and I have used it for several years now to be able to get the gifts from Santa and help us incorporate that into our Christmas.”
As for the Yocham family, they believe, not just in Santa, but in the spirit of the season and the kindness of others.
“It just lets us know there’s still good people out there,” expressed Yocham.
