Tip leads to charges in a serious assault in Barry County

Authorities say a local Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest of Asahel Rodriguez, 18, of Purdy. He’s accused of assaulting a 67-year-old man, causing internal brain bleeding in the victim.

According to court documents, Rodriguez was at the man’s home on Farm Road 2080 and threatened the victim. Rodriguez then allegedly lured the man outside and punched him in the face multiple times.

Documents state the assault caused the victim’s right eye to be swollen shut and resulted in lip injuries. Following medical treatment, it was shown the assault allegedly led to an internal brain bleed, according to the Barry County Sheriff’s Office.

A Barry-Lawrence County Chapter of Crime Stoppers got a tip that got Rodriguez arrested in Monett on April 23rd, 2019. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to the arrest and filing of charges on felony crimes.

Prosecutors charged Rodriguez with Assault 1st Degree Or Attempt – Serious Physical Injury Or Special Victim. Bond has been set at $100,000 cash only.
