Thefts from motor vehicles in Pittsburg

Police Department Media Release – 5/5/14 – Theft from Motor Vehicles

The City of Pittsburg experienced a series of vehicle burglaries over the weekend. The Police Department responded to seven reports of these on Sunday, May 4, 2014. The Department is aware not all crimes are reported, and there may have been other incidents that occurred. The thefts are believed to have occurred late Saturday night, early Sunday morning and the area targeted by the suspect(s) was the residential neighborhood south of Lincoln Park. The seven vehicles broke into had been left unlocked.

The Pittsburg Police Department would like to remind the Citizens that traditionally the frequency of Thefts from Motor Vehicles increases during the summer. The Police Department encourages residents to take the following steps to reduce the likelihood of being targeted by thieves:

Lock all vehicle doors and ensure all windows are secure before leaving your vehicle unattended.

Never leave keys or valuables exposed in your vehicle. If you must leave items in your vehicle, place them in the trunk or hide them out of sight.

If possible, park your vehicle in a well-lit, visible area.

If you have any information regarding this investigation please contact the Pittsburg Police Department at (620) 231-1700 or submit a crime tip on our website.
