‘The Fifteen Percent’ non-profit in Liberal served more than 12,000 meals in 2019, continues to grow

They will soon have fed 20% of Liberal population

LIBERAL, Mo. What started as a small act of kindness turned into making and delivering food to 140 people, three nights a week.

11 year-old Thomas Savage is one of those people.

“I feel lucky and supported.”

The nonprofit is called ‘The Fifteen Percent’, as a reminder of the goal to feed 15% of the Liberal, Missouri population. It served over 12,000 meals to kids and adults last year alone.

“It makes kids really happy and makes them think that there’s still hope out there, which there is” added Savage.

Kathy Miller and her husband credit the communities help for how far they have come.

“It’s very important to me that this community knows we cannot do this without their help, we can’t.”

Miller started the project in her kitchen but soon found out they could not serve out of their home. Thanks to the support of the community, she now has a small building to cook in behind her home along with a new, donated stove.
