PITTSBURG, Kan. – The KHP Hazardous Device unit looks for evidence after a ‘suspicious device’ was found near Pittsburg State University campus.

On Wednesday afternoon, March 3, around 2:50 p.m., Pittsburg police officers responded to the 1500 block area of S. Joplin Street after getting a call about the suspicious device. The Kansas State Highway Patrol’s Hazardous Device Unit arrived on scene shortly before 6:00 p.m.

Authorities confirmed the device was west of S. Joplin in that area. The KHP unit took photos of the device and left the scene with it around 7:20 p.m.

According to Major Ben Henderson with the Pittsburg Police Department, the KHP unit is working to get evidence, such as fingerprints, off the device today, March 4.

Authorities are not saying what the device was or giving any details about it at this time.
