Structure Fire In Nevada Leaves One Dead

Nevada Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire. Upon our arrival they found a two story wood frame structure with smoke and fire coming from a second story window on the West side. Several of the residents of the building were rescued by NFD and NPD officers by the use of ladders, from the second and third floors on the East side of the building. The fire was located in Apt. #6, and was contained to the room of origin with some minor extension to the outside of the buildings exterior.

During the secondary search a female victim was found in Apt. #6, and was removed from the building and pass onto the care of Vernon County Ambulance District for transportation to Nevada Regional Medical Center. The fire was extinguished and salvage and overhaul was completed on the building. The cause of the fire was determined to be related to discarded smoking materials in the bedroom.

Damage was estimated to be $100,000.00, and no other injuries were reported. Deerfield and Milo Fire Departments were called to assist with the fire bringing 8 firefighters to the scene. Nevada Police Department, Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, and Vernon County Ambulance District were on scene of the incident as well.
