Structure concern puts things on hold at Taylor Auditorium

Missouri Southern State University says crews have found a horizontal crack in an interior wall in the Taylor Performing Arts Center.

The University had planned for and budgeted with an external company to replace the curtains and rigging system on the stage. After the rigging was removed, and prior to the new rigging was to be installed, the company found the crack.

“Missouri Southern took immediate precautions and took TPAC offline, calling an engineering company and architect in to analyze the situation and suggest various fixes to the building. Missouri Southern is currently awaiting the findings,” says Heather Lesmeister, Director of University Relations and Marketing in a statement.

Lesmeister continues, “There is minimal impact to the students since TPAC is an auditorium and not an academic facility. All scheduled productions will be moved to the Bud Walton Theater. Missouri Southern remains committed to providing a safe environment for all its students, faculty and staff and are prepared to accommodate all parties as needed.”
