Storytellers bring history to life in Diamond

A lineup of storytellers entertained and educated guests at the George Washington Carver National Monument on Saturday.

Actors portrayed Cesar Chavez, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton as they shared stories of their subjects’ history and experiences. Attendees could also hear stories about Native American traditions.

There were around 50 people in attendance for each performance.

“Theater is a great way to get people excited about history because it’s really not black and white pictures in textbooks. It’s really dramatic stories about people,” said Fred Blanco, the actor portraying Cesar Chavez.

The event was part of the monument’s 4th annual Storytelling Days event.
