Stolen handgun found near courthouse in Joplin, man arrested
JOPLIN, Mo. – Deputies arrest a man in connection to a stolen handgun found near the Joplin Courthouse. The Webb City man also had an active warrant for stealing.
On Feb. 20, 2020, around 10:38 a.m. at the Joplin Courthouse (601 South Pearl Street), a person reported suspicious activity they witnessed to a deputy.
The deputy checked the reported area and found a handgun hidden behind a gas meter near the courthouse, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the handgun came back as being reported stolen out of Joplin.
Before this, the Sheriff’s Office says a man, identified as Courtney McKissack, 38, of Webb City, checked in with security on his way to court and had two pistol magazines in his pocket.
Those magazines were secured in a lock box at the security station.
Authorities arrested McKissack on an active warrant for stealing. They also took him into custody on probable cause for receiving stolen property.
The Sheriff’s Office is requesting charges through the Prosecutor’s Office.
