Steven G. “Catfish” Gatton, 59, of Parsons, passed away, following a recent cancer diagnosis, at 7:27 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2021, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

He was born on December 31, 1961, to William and Peggy (Heady) Gatton. He grew up and attended school at Meadow View Grade School and attended high school at Labette County High School.

For a time, Steve worked for Ruskin Manufacturing. Most of his adult life, he worked on various farms, which he enjoyed very much. He had a passion for farming and gardening and was good at both. He took pride in being a hard worker and helping people when they needed him.

Steve was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved spending time with his cousins and always found a way to make others laugh. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his kids and grandkids, especially watching his grandkids play sports and dance.

He was married to Teresa Fuentez in 1986. They were later divorced.

Survivors include:

One son – Joshua (Danielle) Gatton of Parsons, Kansas

One daughter – Tiffany (Joshua) Hinman of Parsons, Kansas

Five grandchildren – Jayla Hinman, Tate Gatton, Dominic Hinman, Tayleigh Gatton and Tavin Gatton

His mother – Peggy Gatton of Parsons, Kansas

One brother – Rick (Debbie) Gatton of Altamont, Kansas

One brother-in-law – Gary LaForge of Parsons, Kansas

He was preceded in death by his father, William E. “Bill” Gatton; and his sister, Lori Renae LaForge.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2021, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the funeral services.
