Staying warm once again for our Saturday – Nick

Slight rain chances today before better rain chances come back next week

Good early Saturday morning, everyone. After dealing with a slow-moving storm system that kept us chilly, cloudy and busy with rain chances for most of the week, our weather setup took a turn for the better to get the holiday weekend started. After Thursday’s cloud cover and rain chances kept highs in the lower 60s, the returning sunshine got highs back into the upper 70s across the area yesterday afternoon. Looking at our weather setup, we have an area of high pressure at the surface to our south. Its departure to the east will make sure we get a stronger south wind back in play for today. Upstairs at the jet stream level, there’s a quick wave pushing cloud cover and some slight rain chances across western and southern Kansas.

That quick wave will start passing through once we get past sunrise this morning with lows starting out in the upper 50s. As the wave pushes through, we’ll have these slight chances for a few showers (perhaps a few t-storms) work on through a few spots across the area. This will be during the morning hours, though.

Once that wave quickly passes through, we’ll stay dry for the afternoon under partly to mostly sunny skies. With a south wind picking up between 10 and 20 mph, we’ll trend warmer for today with afternoon highs in the lower 80s across much of the area. Some middle 80s could certainly be possible for some spots in northeast Oklahoma and our far western Kansas communities.

With mostly clear to partly cloudy skies for tonight and Sunday morning, the south wind will keep temperatures mild with lows around 70 across the area. The continued south wind and partly sunny skies for Sunday should push highs into the upper 80s for the afternoon.

Thankfully, we’ll stay on the warmer side of the jet with any storm systems staying off to our west and northwest for Memorial Day. That means we’ll continue with dry weather and partly sunny skies for Memorial Day. After morning lows start around 70, we’ll push highs back into the middle 80s for your Monday afternoon.

Once we get past the holiday weekend, our next system will start to send scattered t-storms back into play for Tuesday and Wednesday. While the warm side of the jet will keep us in the middle 80s for Tuesday, the milder side of the jet with the continued rain chances and mostly cloudy skies will send highs back into the upper 70s for Wednesday.

We’ll still have some additional rain chances by the end of next week. With another wave riding along the jet, we’ll keep scattered t-storms and mostly cloudy skies in the forecast for both Thursday and Friday. As far as temperatures go, we’ll expect highs to top out in the middle 70s.

Don’t forget that Doug has your long range forecast out through the rest of the month and to the 2nd of July down below. Have a great Saturday!
