WEBB CITY, Mo. - The Webb City Little League baseball team is headed to the semifinals at the Midwest Regional Tournament in Indianapolis.
Webb City avoided elimination for the third straight game on Wednesday, beating Fargo, North Dakota 6-3 in 7 innings.
Webb City had a 2-0 lead in the 6th, before Fargo scored a pair in the bottom of the 6th to send the game to extra innings. The state champs from Missouri immediately bounced back and scored 4 in the top of the 7th to put the game away and punch their ticket to the semi's.
"I'm proud of them. It's hard to get yourself together after losing a 2-0 lead in the final inning," says Webb City head coach Brandon Eggleston, "These guys have faced adversity before. Right now they're not getting too anxious about being behind or being in a tight spot."
Webb City will be back on the field on Friday, facing the loser of Thursday's Iowa/Minnesota game. With a win on Friday, they'll play for the regional championship and a spot in the Little League World Series.
"They understand the stage they're on, and how close they are to something that they've been talking about and working for since they were 8 years old," Eggleston adds, "I can tell you the stage they're on affects the adults a lot more than it affects the kids. We're on pens and needles most of the time and they're able to maintain their focus."
Friday's game will be at 10 AM, and it will air on ESPN.
