Frontenac wins 12U state title, advances to Midwest Plains Regional in Nebraska

The Raiders beat Liberal 6-5 Sunday to win state

FRONTENAC, Kan. - The Frontenac Raiders won the 12U Cal Ripken state baseball tournament on Sunday to advance to the Midwest Plains Regional Tournament in Chadron, Nebraska.

Frontenac won their semifinal game against Columbus 6-2, before beating Liberal 6-5 in walk-off fashion in the championship game.

Jack Capehart got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 6th to give the Raiders the win and send them to the regional tournament.

"I talked to Jack before he came up, and I said if you wear it we're state champs," says Frontenac head coach Mike Snow, "I didn't expect him to duck on ball four and take it in the head, but he found a way to get it done and we came together as a team and found a way. I've never been more proud of a group of kids than I am right now."

The Midwest Plains Regional Tournament will begin on July 18th in Chadron, Nebraska. Frontenac is scheduled to play the Iowa state champion in their first game at 3:00 PM. Click HERE for the complete schedule for the regional tournament.
