Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) volleyball is set to return John Lance Arena Tuesday (Oct. 22) as the Pittsburg State University volleyball team will play host to the University of Central Oklahoma. First serve is set for 6 p.m. (CDT).
Scouting the Gorillas
The Gorillas are coming off three-set sweep over Fort Hays State University last Saturday (Oct. 19). Pitt State enters Tuesday's action with a 10-10 overall record and a 5-6 mark in MIAA play.
Head coach Jen Gomez, who is in her third season at the helm, enters the match with a 41-72 record leading the Gorillas.
The Gorillas are hitting .187 on the season while holding opponents to a .182 attacking percentage. Senior outside hitter Erika Ivkov (Ward, Colo.) leads Pitt State with 25 service aces and 226 kills, both are team-highs. Marissa Bates is the top defensive player with 283 digs on the season.
Scouting the Bronchos
UCO enters Tuesday's match with a 15-6 overall record and a 7-4 MIAA mark. The Bronchos are on a two-match winning streak after sweeping MIAA foes Newman University and Missouri Western State University last week.
Central Oklahoma is hitting .213 on the season while holding opposing teams just a .149 attack percentage. Amanda Desch is the top attacker for the Bronchos with 170 kills on the season.
Pitt State won a hard fought road decision against UCO earlier this season on Sept. 20. The Gorillas defeated the Bronchos, 25-20, 17-25, 25-15, 25-19 at Edmond, Okla. Ivkov and Morgan Henning had 13 kills apiece to pace the Gorillas in that match.
Pitt State will hit the road this weekend for a pair of MIAA matches against the University of Central Missouri Friday (Oct. 25) and Northwest Missouri State University Saturday (Oct. 26).
