Missouri Southern soccer faces Lopers and Tigers on the road

JOPLIN, Mo. - FULL RELEASE FROM MISSOURI SOUTHERN ATHLETICS: 

The Missouri Southern women's soccer squad hits the road for a pair of 1:00 pm matches beginning in Kearney, Nebraska to take on the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers tomorrow before heading off for Hays, Kansas to do battle with the Fort Hays State Tigers on Sunday as well.
 
Senior forward Jessica Edwards led the Lions (2-10-0, 1-4-0 MIAA) with two goals while senior defender Brianna Smith added a goal and an assist in last weekends meeting with nationally ranked Central Oklahoma. Then after falling behind 3-0 to Newman on Sunday, freshman midfielder Brianna Marquez, sophomore forward Courtney Marten, and Sarah Tatum each scored one to tie the match at 3-3 in Sunday's clash.

Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association … finished tenth last season (5-12-1, 3-7-1 MIAA) … picked tenth in the conference preseason poll … return two All-MIAA selections from last season in senior goalkeeper Allie Prososki (HM) and senior defender Molly Willis (HM) … four other starters join them with ten or more starts during the 2018 season … the Lopers tied the Lions 2-2 in last year's meeting in Joplin after falling behind 2-0 early … head coach Chloe Roberts enters her third season at the helm of the Lopers … elevated to the top spot after two years as a graduate assistant and one year as assistant coach at UNK …became a four-time All-American and 2011 Player of the Year while playing for North Alabama at the NCAA Division II level from 2009 through 2013 … is a native of England where she was part of the Women's National Team (U-15-23s).

Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association … finished fourth last season (11-7-2, 8-3-0 MIAA); fell 3-0 in the second round of the postseason tournament to nationally ranked Central Oklahoma … picked third in the conference preseason poll … retain seven All-MIAA selections from last season in senior goalkeeper Megan Kneefel (2nd), senior midfielder Chloe Montano (2nd), freshman forward Cailey Perkins (2nd), senior midfielder Nikita Woods (3rd),  senior defender Shayla Podlena (HM), senior forward Darby Hirsch (HM), and junior defender Zariah Smith (HM) … three other starters join them with ten or more starts during the 2018 season … has played only three matches thus far on its home field with a 2-1 record … currently holding a 3-0-1 record in its last four matches, including a 2-1 victory over UCO on the road … tied for second in the MIAA with 10 goals allowed … head coach Blake Reynolds enters his third season at the helm of the Tigers …he is only the second coach in program history while compiling a record of 21-13-6 through two seasons … previously coached at Kansas Wesleyan where he led the Coyotes to a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
