Former NEO tight end Sternberger scores first NFL touchdown

Sternberger played at NEO in 2017

MIAMI, Okla. - Former NEO tight end Jace Sternberger got in an NFL end-zone for the first time on Thursday night.

Sternberger, who is in his rookie season with the Green Bay Packers, caught a two-yard touchdown from quarterback Tim Boyle in the team's preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Sternberger played at NEO in 2017, earning 1st team All-SWJCFC honors. He played at Texas A&M in 2018, finishing with 804 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. He finished #2 in the nation in receiving yards among tight ends, and #1 in receiving touchdowns.

He was selected by the Packers in the 3rd round (75th overall) of the NFL draft in April.

Sternberger wasn't the only for NEO player suited up Thursday. His former NEO teammate, running back Darwin Thompson, is on the Chiefs roster.

Thompson was drafted in the 6th round of April's draft by Kansas City. He did not play Thursday night, but is expected to be a contributor to the Chiefs offense this season.
