SPARK grant leads to community greenhouse for Erie
ERIE, Kan. – Folks in Erie, Kansas will soon be able to work on their green thumb.
The Erie City Public Library was awarded a SPARK Grant to expand their “We Share” program.
Under the program, library officials will plant vegetables and distribute the harvest and seeds to members of the community.
Now families who don’t have room for a garden at their homes can plant and pick their produce in a community greenhouse.
“I think that it’s gonna make, first of all, the library grow. It’s my big plan for the library to have lots of activities that we do…in addition to making sure that people have food,” said Julie Kent with the Erie Public Library.
The greenhouse, paid for with the SPARK grant, costs around $10,000. Library officials hope to have it delivered before the new year.
