Southern cross country teams prepare for NCAA D-II National Meet
Press Release MSSU:
The Missouri Southern men’s and women’s cross country teams will look to continue their dominant running as the teams head to the 2014 NCAA Division II National Cross Country meet in Louisville, Ky. tomorrow.
The cross country championships are being held in Louisville as part of the Division II Fall Sports Festival. Bellarmine University and the City of Louisville serve as co-hosts for the event. The races are being ran at EP “Tom” Sawyer State Park.
Both teams finished third at the recent NCAA D-II Central Region Championships held in Wayne, Neb. On the men’s side, Eric Schott placed second and it was the first time he had been defeated by a Division II runner all season. Schott will be in the hunt for a national championship and is one of the top distance runners in D-II.
The women are ranked 12th nationally, while the men are ranked 14th heading into the event. The Southern women have four event wins this year, including the MIAA Championship. The men have three event wins, including the MIAA title, as well and have yet to finish below third place as a team.
The Lions’ men had three runners earn All-Region honors at the Central Region meet two weeks ago as Schott, Andrew Webster and Adrian Todd all picked up All-Region honors. On the women’s side, both Dora Eastin and Emily Harris were named All-Region.
The men’s 10k race will begin at 11 am ET, while the women’s 6k will begin at 12:15 pm ET. Links to live results and live video can be found at the top of this story.
