Some Joplin elementary students received a college education
On Tuesday some Joplin elementary students received a college education.
Missouri Southern State University Interim President Alan Marble visit with Stapleton Elementary students. He was just one of the speakers to help launch this school year’s “Operation College Bound“. Another special appearance was made by the MSSU mascot “Roary”.
Operation College Bound is an effort by the Joplin school system to give these youngsters a look at university life.
“I think that they can actually go in there and see and get the taste that college is not just about bettering yourself and bettering your future, but it’s about having fun and enjoying life better,” says parent Tammy Marlay.
“All of my girls want to be teachers so they know they are going to have to go beyond high school and they are looking forward to it,” says parent Sammye Erisman.
Joplin students grades K-5 will visit a different college or university campus every spring. It will include tours of the campus and meeting college students, staff and the mascot.
