Single Vehicle Motorcycle Crash Claims Life Of Kansas Veteran

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kan. – A single-vehicle motorcycle crash claims the life of a Burlington, Kansas man.

The crash happened Sunday morning shortly after 9:30 am on county road 5600 in Montgomery County. According to the Montgomery County Chronicle, the rural county road is between Elk City and Independence.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s department says deputies learned a 2017 motorcycle left the right side of the county road, going into a ditch. According to the Chronicle, the driver was Harvey E. Eccles. Emergency personnel flew him to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He died from his injuries.

Deanna Eccles, a passenger, was not injured.

According to the Montgomery County Chronicle, Eccles was in the Independence area during the weekend as part of the Combat Vets Association rally hosted by the Independence Veterans of Foreign Wars. Eccles was commander of the American Legion Post 38 in Burlington.
