Shooting at Olathe East High School; 3 suffer GSW, principal, SRO and student suspect shooter who is in custody

OLATHE, Kan. — Olathe Police Department are saying a critical incident occurred Friday morning at Olathe East High School.

School Resource Officer Shot and injured, Administrator Shot and injured. Occurred in Office Area. Suspect in custody.” – OPD

Olathe Police release information there are, “No active threat at this time. No reports of injured students at this time.”

An 18-year-old male student suspect was shot and injured and is in custody.  His name is not being released at this time.

The School Resource Officer, Ofc Erik Clark, has been identified and many are calling him a hero.

Ofc Clark has served the Olathe PD for 15 years and has been an SRO for 7.  You can hear in our audio as he calls police dispatch to say he had been shot.

Ofc Clark has been placed on leave pending the investigation.

The Olathe Police Department, Lenexa Police Department and the ATF are working this investigation.

UPDATE 12:35 p.m.: Olathe East families: the following reunification plan will begin immediately

Parent pick-up and walkers will be transported to California Trail Middle School (13775 W 133rd St, Olathe, KS 66062). Please reunify with your student there.

Bus riders will come home on buses from Pioneer Trail Middle School (15100 W 127th St, Olathe, KS 66062).

Student drivers will be released in a staggered fashion and escorted to their vehicles.

Special Education bus riders will come home on buses from Olathe East as normal.

In order for reunification to be successful, please know that we will have a process and procedure in place. There will be administrators to facilitate the reunification process. We ask for your patience as we account for all students. Our goal is to reunify students with their families as soon as we can.

Counseling services for students and staff will be available at California Trail Middle School and Pioneer Trail Middle School until 7 p.m. tonight.

We are working with Olathe Police Department to finalize reunification plans. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to create a plan that prioritizes the safety of your students.

I do want to clarify, if your loved one was injured, you would have already been contacted by the police department. We will provide additional updates as soon as they are available.

ORIGINAL RELEASE: Olathe Community: Olathe East is currently under lock down due to an active shooting situation on campus. Please know that law enforcement is on site and the building is secured. Olathe East and surrounding school buildings have been secured. We are working on reunification plans. Please do not go to the school at this time.
